Currently, we are well into making Happy Blocks for Compassion Quilts. But I haven't taken the time to let you know how we did on the Color Stix block drive.
Yes, thanks to so many of you, I was able to put together 30 Color Stix Compassion quilts.
I have the last three to share with you today.
Quilt #28 has a Halloween theme. I received a pretty good stack of orange blocks with Spooky images to I decided to go ahead and make a quilt for a Halloween fan. I made a few blocks from some Halloween fabric I had and pulled some blocks that went well with them. I even had a little witch panel I was able to use in this quilt.
It is not a big ...

But I will say we are nearing the end - which is good because the Happy Blocks for the next drive are already arriving!
Sometimes in a block drive, I receive some blocks with novelty fabric in them. Depending on the quilts I am making, some fit in and some don't. So usually toward the end of the drive, I put them together in a quilt and make a child's quilt.
This block drive I felt I had enough to make two quilts.
Woo Hoo! It's Friday and that means I have some finishes to share.
Can you believe we are up to finishes #22 and #23?! That is amazing! Both of today's quilts were inspired by a backing fabric I had on hand. So that is how size and colors were determined.
The two Color Stix finishes I am sharing today are made using some alternate layout designs. All of the quilts I have made to date set the blocks in alternate directions.
I had an abundance of purple and blue blocks so I thought it would be fun to put them together in one quilt. I stacked each color's blocks from light to dark. Then I started laying out the blocks with the blue blocks going lightest on the right and the purple blocks going lightest on the left.
This might be one of my favorite finishes in this block ...

That means I have some more Compassion Quilt finishes to share today.
I have been hitting the longarm quilting on these tops really hard lately, so I have a big pile that just needs binding. That means I will have lots more to share soon.
Quilt #18 is another quilt that was inspired by the backing piece. These green, gold, and brown blocks look so pretty together. It is hard to see but I laid the different colors out diagonally.
Blocks for Compassion Quilts have pretty much dried up so now I am able to focus on getting the last stack of blocks into quilt tops. I still have quite a few in the pipeline to finish up.
Today I can share numbers 16 and 17.
I was so close to having two Color Stix quilts to share today but I just couldn't get the binding done on quilt #16. It will have to wait until next week's post.
This is another quilt I made using a backing as inspiration. The backing was all pastel colors so those are the block colors I chose. I also had a large cut of fabric so I could make a nice large quilt. This Compassion Quilt measures 63 x 72".
The backing was gifted by Kat and has Asian lanterns and fans. It is really quite pretty ...

Yay! It is Friday!
And that means I have a few more Compassion Quilts to share.
More Compassion Quilt finishes.
This week's Color Stix finishes were both inspired by the backings.
Due to a wrist injury, I have had to shorten the time I have been sewing bindings on these Compassion Quilts. Luckily a few of my awesome friends have stepped up.
But I did get these two finished so I could share them today!
The pipeline for the newest Compassion Quilt block drive is now flowing nicely and I have a couple finishes to share with you today. This block drive was designed to help me use up some of the donated backing fabrics that haven't found a home yet. So far, it is working splendidly!
This first quilt was fairly easy to put together. Here is the back first. I had two 2-yard cuts of some orange and green florals. I think Nann may have donated one or both of these fabrics.
Here is quilt number three! I had lots of red ...

I have a big custom client quilt on my longarm and it is taking a LOT longer than I thought it would. Ugh!! That has kind of messed up my week a bit.
When I shared Color Stix #1, I showed how I was inspired by an orphan block that was sent to me. I thought I would dig through my own orphan blocks and see if I had any others I could use. As I was stacking up a little pile, I remembered a panel piece I had ...

A big thanks to both Nann and Elana who help start fill the pipeline by making and sending blocks early so I could get started putting quilt tops together right away.
Nann sent both blocks and backings and Elana sent blocks and some orphan blocks she had kicking around her sewing room.
One of the orphan blocks she sent me was this bright-colored 16" house block - I was instantly inspired and framed it with a dark blue and bright colored batik I was gifted.
I feel like I haven't gotten any scraps out in weeks.
Friday, I did get out my yellow scrap bin and make a few Stix blocks. I needed 5 yellow blocks to finish up a Compassion Quilt top. I knew if I waited for them to arrive in the mail, they would never come.
I quilted up the first quilt for this block drive. I just need to sew on the binding ...

The next block we are using is one of my Scrap-A-Palooza designs. I am calling it a Color Stix Block.
It is a very simple block.
